THE ‘NAUGHTY’ RULE THAT SAVED MY SANITY (& COULD SAVE YOURS TOO)!
One mental battle I have fought, being a recovering perfectionist, was living in extremes! When a person struggles with perfectionism, they try to prove their worthiness by being ENOUGH, over & over again. One consequence of this is doing things so extremely to “get things right” or to “prove they’re worthy or lovable”. When a person doesn’t think they’re sexy, beautiful, skinny, healthy, smart, perfect, or successful ENOUGH, they’ll go to extremes to prove they are these ideals. This is exhausting & inevitably causes more damage (physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually). This shows up as CONSTANTLY: dieting or trying the NEW FAD diet, exercising endlessly, having consistent negative thought patterns, or trying to race ALL the races.
Applying the ‘Naughty Rule’ (80/20 Rule) to choose nourishment, how you want to move your body, and your thought processes helps to break the perfectionist thinking & busts up the 100/0 Way of Living that has ruled for so long. As a guide, 80% of the time: eat & move your body well, drink water, create positive thoughts, get 8 hrs of sleep, & race when you feel good. The other 20% of the time is for things you may consider to be naughtier or a little unhealthy; how about that chocolate cupcake or glass of wine, extra-long endurance run, staying up late for your fav Netflix & chill marathon (or whatever would fall into your 20% naughty category). The goal: create more wellness, happiness, health, & lightness in your life & allow for some of the ‘naughty stuff’ too. It will enable you to not take it all too seriously & to stop beating yourself up! By following the ‘Naughty Rule’, it leaves room for YOUR HUMANITY (what a concept) & allows you to Rise Up & Shine ON like the Fierce Love Warrior Goddess you are!
