HOW DO I BEGIN TO STOP NEGATIVE SELF-TALK?

 Start with Babe Talk!  It’s not what you’re thinking! Begin to notice how you’re talking to yourself.  How does it sound? Typically, before awareness is brought to this process, it’s pretty scary.  Often the self-talk going on in your head is HORRIBLE, no-good, should-never-be-said, we-wouldn’t-say-this-shit-to-our-worst-enemy kind of talk.  Look at the photo of my sweet Grandbaby, Attli, & consider saying the things you say to yourself to her in that photo.  YOU WOULDN’T!  Start to talk to yourself as if you were a babe, a small child.  Think about how you would speak to a small child learning a new task, kindly, sweetly, & patiently. 

Think about it; what sort of thoughts go through your mind when you look at yourself naked in the mirror? Do you: praise yourself, say I love you, say kind things to yourself? OR do you: start picking yourself apart, looking at the parts you hate & wish they were different, or worse, maybe you can’t even look at yourself naked in the mirror at all because you can’t stand what you see?  Negative self-talk, unfortunately, is not uncommon.

 I’ve found that NO ONE is exempt from negative self-talk, not even the people you look at & think, “What do they have to complain about? They’re perfect, have the perfect body, life, house, or partner?”  I also know it doesn’t matter how much money, fame, or good fortune you have! NO ONE is exempt.  Keep in mind, if you’re looking at someone else with admiration, someone may be looking at you with the same thoughts. What you may want to change about yourself, someone else admires & wishes they had.

 Go slowly, take baby steps.  Begin catching yourself when you are thinking negative thoughts, then pause & think, “How would I talk to a small babe right now?”, then do that instead!  Begin to talk sweetly, tenderly, & with LOVE to yourself & begin to notice how this shifts your outlook & how others start responding to you as well.  YOU ROCK! Start celebrating your incredibleness!

Remember that fierceness I talk about?  USE IT TO GENERATE & INTERRUPT your negative self-talk.  It’s a powerful force that helps us shift our thinking, habits, & life for the better!
